January Book Photo Challenge–Day 30
Freebie–the books I have to read for grad school this semester.
Not pictured–the one audiobook, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, because it’s an audiobook, and also The Family Romanov because I thought I had it until taking this picture.
Pictured, but barely visible–Ms Marvel No Normal and The Terrorist’s Son.
Book haul aka my mom doesn’t keep books after she reads them.
Added bonus of Scarlett looking totes adorbs.

Some time ago I read (in one day) Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover.
I chose this because a) every book of hers I’ve read I’ve liked so far, and b) it’s a novella and I was one book behind schedule to read 80 books this year. It didn’t say on the cover that it had anything to do with one of her series (Hopeless?), but it did, vaguely. Since it was a novella it basically made sense on its own.…
I’m now a Book Depository affiliate! If you use the above link to buy books from the Book Depository, I’ll get a small commission. At NO EXTRA COST TO YOU!
That’s right! You’ll pay the same price for the book whether you use my link or not, so why not help me out a little? I’d be super grateful!
November book photo challenge.
Day thirty–read this month
Most of the books I read this month are at the library now. So.
The thing with telling “cliche” stories, but with representation, is… these stories aren’t cliche for us.
Picture this. The people at the table next to you have been getting chocolate cake as a dessert for YEARS. After every meal, they get a chocolate cake. Now, it’s been years, and the people at that table can barely stand chocolate anymore. They want maybe a cheesecake. Or lemon mousse.
But your table? Has NEVER had chocolate cake. Mousse is also good, but you are SO hungry for that chocolate cake, cause you never had it before, and it’s brand new for you, and you’ve been watching the other table eat it for YEARS.
That’s what’s like getting a “cliche” story that’s representative. Has it been done a million times before? Yes. Has it ever been done for US? Well… no. Maybe it’s the 500th chocolate cake in existence, but all the other chocolate cakes weren’t meant for us (girls/PoC/queer folk/disabled folk/etc)
So it being cliche is not a bad thing. You may not want chocolate cake anymore. But we want our slice too.
Unfortunately, since the coupon didn’t start until 10am, everyone must have been on the site at the same time. I couldn’t get the payment screen to load, and when I finally did, one of the books I really wanted was already gone :((((
Oh well! I guess that’s another item for my Christmas list!
